eHarmony vs – the battle between to of the largest dating sites. Which site is the best site to find love in 2020? Which site is the cheapest? And which site is the most popular? I’ll attempt to answer all of these questions and more, as well as provide free trial links for both sites.

There are tens of thousands of paid subscription based online dating websites online, but only a very small percentage are reputable sites where you’ll have an excellent chance of finding a partner.

Luckily both and eHarmony are both very trustworthy sites and also have the largest and most active membership numbers that stretch into the millions.

Match VS eHarmony Summary

I rate both sites very highly indeed, with just pinching it from eHarmony by a whisker. You’ll find my review here and also my review of eHarmony here. You’ll find that both sites have their own pros and cons, but neither sites are plagued by fake profiles which is a huge plus and the most important consideration when joining an online dating site.

Who Do I Recommend: or eHarmony?

I probably get asked 10 times per day which dating site I recommend: or eHarmony? The answer is not so straightforward, but if I had to pick between one of them I’d go for for three very good reasons.

Would you like to know what these reasons are? If so then please read do on.

If not, then the following big green buttons will take you straight over to where you can start a free trial (no credit card needed). Just complete the registration form and you’ll be ready to start your online dating adventure! Free Trial (USA/CA) Free Trial (UK)

Reason 1

I personally know a lot more people who have met their partners on than on eHarmony. My brother met his wife on and also a best friend met her husband on too. I’ve also been contacted on this site by a lot more people who have had success on Match than eHarmony. That’s not to say that eHarmony does not work, it just seems to be more people are having success with Match right now.

Reason 2

How both sites handle searching is very different. eHarmony basically automates this for you based on the results from your membership questionnaire, unfortunately sometimes you’ll end up with no matches at all and can’t do anything about it. No matches on eHarmony means you won’t see any profiles and you won’t be able to contact anyone.

On however you are left to search for your own matches using an extensive list of search options. There are no restrictions here and you will be spoilt for choice if you live in a large town or city.

Reason 3

eHarmony is a little cheaper if you join for 12 months. Personally I always recommend taking out a 6 month membership since 1 and 3 months subscriptions are often too short to find your soul mate and 12 months is really far too long. A 6 month membership on is almost half the price of eHarmony.

Membership Prices: vs eHarmony

As I’ve just mentioned above, eHarmony is only slightly cheaper when you signup for 12 months. And as you’ll see below, eHarmony is significantly more expensive than for both the 6 month and the 3 months membership packages.

12 Month Subscription: $20.99 Per Month
12 Month Subscription: eHarmony $18.95 Per Month
6 Month Subscription: $23.99 Per Month
6 Month Subscription: eHarmony $39.95 Per Month
3 Month Subscription: $26.99 Per Month
3 Month Subscription: eHarmony $59.95 Per Month

12 Month Subscription: £12.99 Per Month
12 Month Subscription: eHarmony £12.95 Per Month
6 Month Subscription: £19.99 Per Month
6 Month Subscription: eHarmony £28.95 Per Month
3 Month Subscription: £29.99 Per Month
3 Month Subscription: eHarmony £36.95 Per Month

You might be thinking that the subscription prices for both dating sites are high, but when you think about how much you can spend searching for a date in the real World, then dating online can actually save you money. The following video from eHarmony provides some great examples:

eHarmony vs – How Do the Sites Work?

Both sites work very differently from each other when it comes to helping you to find a partner. I’ll try to explain and compare how they both work below:

How eHarmony Works

eHarmony takes automated matchmaking to a whole new level. After you have registered on their site they’ll ask you to complete what they call their Personality Questionnaire. For this you’ll need a big mug of coffee and a packet of your favorite biscuits because there are over one hundred questions to get through!

What kind of questions will they ask you? And what is the purpose? The questions asked are designed to find out more about you, your personality, your hobbies, your values, as well as the usual hair and eye color. The purpose being to match you with other members on their site who have similar personalities to yourself, as apparently on eHarmony opposites definitely don’t attract!

Once you have completed the questionnaire you can’t go back and change it, so it really is in your best interests to answer honestly.

What you won’t find on eHarmony is the standard search option. That’s because they do all the searching for you based on the results from your questionaire. Each day they will send you new matches to review.

There are both pros and cons to this method. The pros are that it will save you from reading thousands and thousands of profiles to find people that you feel you have something in common with and would like to message. Because the matches presented to you should be very similar to yourself in terms of personality and character traits.

The cons however can sometimes outweigh the pros. The cons are mainly flexibility. You can only contact your daily matches, and if your daily matches don’t excite you then you’ll have to wait till the next day to view more profiles. It can also be the case that if you live in a small town with not so many members you may have zero daily matches! In which case you are paying for nothing.

In terms of messaging eHarmony works like every other dating site. If you like the sounds of someone you simply send them a message. You’ll also be glad to know that the site is fully mobile optimized and there is a mobile app available for iPhones and Androids.

How Works

Unlike eHarmony there is very little in the way of automated matchmaking on It’s up to you to search through the millions of singles on the site and try to filter out the ones that are most appealing to you.

Of course you can narrow the search down to your local town/city, height, age, religion etc.. This certainly helps to make the numbers more manageable. But you will still need to read through their profiles to discover if you have anything in common. But of course, you can’t really expect finding your soul mate not to involve a little work! search options image

You’ll find a lot more silly options on such as ice breakers and winks which I generally recommend you avoid at all costs. If you are interested in someone then write them a personalized message, don’t just wink at them. When has winking at someone across the bar ever landed you a date? If it’s unlikely to work in the real world, then it’s unlikely to work online as well.

You will also find free mobile apps for the iPhone and Android on Match too, so you can also keep tabs on your messages whilst you are out of the house.

eHarmony vs Summary

eHarmony is like driving a car with an automatic gearbox, whereas is most definitely a manual gearbox. On eHarmony all of the work is done for you. However sometimes an automatic is a little too restrictive and you want to have a bit more fun on the open road. This is where really starts to shine.

Online dating in 2015 is bigger than ever, and there are more dating sites to chose from than there are candies in a candy shop. But unless you want to waste your money, I definitely only recommend looking at or eHarmony. And like I mentioned earlier, just beats eHarmony to the post.

Whichever site you decide to join, just remember that although there are millions of singles on both sites, it does not necessarily make it any easier to find someone. It will take time and you’ll have to put in the effort, but this is the same for anything in life that is worth achieving.

Still Not Sure?

If you are still not sure which site you would like to join, then why not just sign up to both.

The free trials that both sites offer do not require payment, so you can find out for yourself which site you prefer before committing to a paid membership. Free Trial (USA/CA) Free Trial (UK)

eHarmony Free Trial (USA/CA)

eHarmony Free Trial (UK)

Whichever site you join, please remember to cancel the automatic renewals on your subscription. As if you find someone early on you most likely won’t want your membership extended automatically. You’ll find this option under your account settings.

Good Luck and Have Fun! X

  1. Thanks for summing up the differences between Match and eharmony. I agree that Match’s searching capability is a great plus, especially if you want to expand your horizons and meet someone who might have some different interests or background. That wouldn’t necessarily mean a relationship is doomed.

On the other hand, I wish Match were more like OK Cupid in its algorithms. I selected “likes to bike” on Match but I bike once/twice a year. That doesn’t mean I’m a good fit for someone who does 10 triathlons a year. I almost feel like a fraud in selecting some of the interests.

Also, Match seems to weight all dissimilarities the same so if someone smokes or has the opposite politics to mine, they still come up as a good match. These things are far more important than if someone matches my desired height range or hair color and Match doesn’t seem to take that into account!

However, you gotta go where the people are.
