From the beginning of my public service, I made a commitment to the American value that everyone should be treated fairly.
I have supported fair treatment in the workforce for minorities, women, and the LGBT community. I believe we have more work to do so that every woman is confident that she is getting equal pay for equal work. I am also very supportive of groups like Moms Rising who are doing more for women who want to balance family life and a professional career by creating more family leave, paid sick leave and child care opportunities for working mothers. We know that when mothers demand more work/life balance, fathers get it too.
I also want to be very clear on another issue. I support marriage equality for the LGBT community. Legally married couples receive more than 1,400 rights, benefits, and protections under the law. Denying marriage rights to any committed, loving couple is simply wrong and it needs to change.
I will be a consistent champion for the values of equality and fairness.
