Happy Friday the 13th!
Big news yesterday - the field in the 1st Congressional District got a little more crowded. By my count, there are now six Democrats and three Republicans vying for the two spaces on the November ballot.
Now, more than ever, I need each and every one of you. I need you to endorse me. I need you to make a contribution. I need you to volunteer your time to help us win this campaign.
I’ll be on the phones every day raising money and at doors asking people for their vote. I’ve already been to Lake Stevens, Snohomish, and Skykomish. I am asking you to match that effort with your own.
I can’t write a million dollar check out of my own account to put hours of television commercials on the air. But I can raise a million dollars if each of you will donate what you can. My [not-so] secret weapon in this campaign is you.
This campaign is about people. It’s about reconnecting people and their elected officials so that we can get our government working again. It’s about making sure that people on every rung of the financial ladder can look up and know that they have a shot of getting to the next rung of the ladder. It’s about people knowing that they can marry the person they love. And it’s about people trusting that their kids can get the best education possible at the local public school.
Now that the field is set, that opportunity is upon us. I am running in what’s being called the most competitive swing seat for Congress in 2012. A seat that is crucial to the Democrats’ hope of retaking the House of Representatives.
I’ve done this before. In 1998, I won a legislative seat in a Republican district and brought the Democrats one step closer to taking back the House. I was known for working harder and listening closer than my opponents. I protected your privacy, protected seniors and children from abuse, and improved health care for women and families. Now I am a working mom who understands the struggles of everyday life.
I’ll fight to preserve Medicare and Social Security, protect the environment, champion a woman’s right to choose and everyone’s right to marry the person they love, and create jobs that support middle class families.
Your decision to get involved either by contributing or signing up to volunteer (or both!) is the most important factor in who will be our next congressional representative.
As always, please feel free to reply (the messages come straight to me) or call my cell phone at 425-445-0970.
